Rachel was down with fever last Saturday (28 October 2006)!!

In the morning, I thought I felt that she was a little warmer than usual, took a temperature from her armpit, and it shows 37! Being the ignorant mommy I am, 37 OK MAR! No fever! So I gave her a bath, and allowed her some playing time in the water...

Late morning, she was warmer than morning, and this time I am quite certain she's having fever, but again, the temperature taken from her armpit shows otherwise! We did took her to the paed (my aunt) since my brother was having a bad fever too... There, she was measuring 37.3, so we thought, OK lar, minor only...

Little did I know, my aunt then told me, "AIYOH!!! Must add 0.5 if temperature taken from armpit. You didn't know ar? So she's actually 37.8 degree C"
*SLAP FOREHEAD* like that ar, since morning she already having fever ler!

To all new parents : Always add 0.5 to the temperature if you measured from the armpit yeah... Remember! :D

So, Rachel was down with fever on Saturday, and it stretched to Sunday, but she's ok now... Because I bought coolFever for my little bro (high temperature), I put the other piece on Rachel too, and I think she look cute... hehehe... Anyway, after reading the instructions saying it shouldn't be put on rashes etc skin, we took it out, then somehow, stuck it to the back of her head! hahaha.... What to do, Rachel got naughty parents.... :D

Below is the slide that shows Rachel taking medicine... I expected it to be harder, but she was OK, probably because the medicine was sweet, so she just spit out a little while trying to swallow, and I stuck her water bottle into her mouth to allow her to swallow the way she knows how to...

Rachel's forehead was bitten by insects (suspected culprit : ANTS)!! There were 10 small marks, which we saw today morning, but when we got back from work in the evening, it grew and the redness spread! Such a heartache looking at her face now... I wonder if it's itchy... But she didn't scratch or rub it, so that's a relief...

Funny thing is, we don't know where the ants came from, and we just changed her mattress cover that night! I'm suspecting the drawers, and got Tina (the maid) to clean up all the drawers... I hope no more insect bites... The redness is reducing now, but the bumps are still there... Oh, I forgot to mention, another bump on her left elbow... :(

Rachel is 5 months old today!!!

Weight: 7.3kg
Height: 64.5cm

Rachel's Update:
  1. She drinks 6.5oz of milk every 4 hours. Actually I think she can last longer than that, but that will add up to be too little for her weight, so I decided to feed every 4 hours.
  2. She can now sleeps until 7 or 8 when hubby and I are not working, but wakes up around 6:30am when we do.
  3. She holds her own milk bottle all the time.
  4. She could sit with support, but will still always fall in front when she try to reach for things to play with.
  5. She can lift herself up about 45degrees, wonder when she'll be able to sit up (TOO ambitious huh?)
  6. She's starting to pay attention to her toes, trying to reach it a bit, but probably because of her big tummy, couldn't reach without any help from us.
  7. She can now turn and prop herself up, but only to her left hand side.
  8. She rubs her eyes or the front of her head when she's sleepy, and will fake a cry and make noises that sounds like 'Ah-Nyen-Nyen-Nyen' when seeking attention or wants to be carried.
  9. She tends to want to stay awake (giving a fight when we try to let her sleep) on weekends or holidays, when she see daddy and mommy around.
  10. She starts to be picky of who carries her, sometimes will fuss when daddy carry, but quiet down as soon as mommy takes over, or vice versa.
  11. She is STILL drooling non stop.
  12. She'll shriek and giggle when we tickle her or play with her.
  13. She likes to play with her saliva, spitting it out and 'making bubbles' out of it.
  14. When we say 'kok kok' (knock knock) to her and put something in front of her head, she will know how to close her eyes and bang her head forward to knock... My mom thought her this! :D
What I enjoy most of her is when she smiles back when you look at her when she's in a good mood... Sometimes, when I am all frustrated, stare at her and ask "WHY YOU SO NOTTY?", shewill quiet down, just look back and give me a big cute smile, and that's it, I'm happy again... *slaps forehead* How to make sure she don't get over pampered?? haha... When she's in this kinda mood, we don't have to play or tickle or talk to her, just a simple smiling with her, will be enough to make her smile back, most of the time with her yes shut (cuz too small mar) and showing her gum... hahaha...

We (actually it was grandma, with the permission of my aunt, Rachel's trusted paed) gave Rachel a taste of apple on 24th October 2006. It wasn't really a first try of solid food, but we just used the spoon to scrap some (VERY VERY little) apple and the juice, and feed it to her...

She was SO cute, sucking and tasting on her lips, I really don't know how to describe it. For a pretty long time, she was still sucking on her lips, probably thinking, wow, what is that taste! hahaha... We only gave her 2 times, and the 2nd, she scrunched up her face probably because it was GREEN apple, and a little sour... hehehe...

Rachel's 1st outstation visit!! Ipoh was the destination... We went on 21st Oct (Sat) and came back on 22nd Oct (Sun).

No no, Tina (our maid cum babysitter) didn't tag along, so it was just me and hubby with the inlaws... Everyone was so worried we couldn't manage, but no one realised that every weekend, it was just hubby and I that settled Rachel... So it's really nothing new... *roll eyes*

If you've read the papers, there was a 200km jam on PLUS highway! Thank God, Father In Law (FIL) did a turn out to the coastal road at Sungai Buloh, and we went along Kuala Selangor way to Ipoh... It took us about 6 hours to get to Ipoh (in comparison to the 2 hours highway) but I'm sure it will take us even longer if we were to stick to PLUS highway...

InLaws are still very disturbed hearing Rachel cry, so it was a little stressful on my part, trying to make sure Rachel don't cry as much and that she will stop crying as soon as she starts! Imagine, FIL was so anxious hearing her cry, that he was stepping on the accelerator more, even when I was changing her diapers, causing me to sway left and right, while trying to change her diapers and making sure she doesn't roll off the seat! Well, since she crys a lot when put in her baby car seat, she spends most of her time carried, either by hubby or me... How to not pamper her when everyone around couldn't stand her crying? HaHaHa...

We went to Tanjung Tualang for lunch (VERY late lunch, considering it was about 3pm). Nice lunch, just I couldn't enjoy it much, with Rachel insisting that I stand and walk! We had our seafood lunch in a restaurant called Lung Seng, and the price is VERY reasonable, the fish and prawns are superbly fresh, and I love the fried noodle, though I only managed to SWALLOW tiny bit of it, no chance of savouring the taste... hehehe...

Little Rachel was cranky, VERY cranky (as you can see in the photos below)... It was all cry, fussiness and lotsa kicking, and a little sleeping... The whole night, when she sees her great grandma (GGM), she will stare, cry, stop, turn to look for GGM, stare, cry, stop and the vicious cycle continues... I don't know if GGM scared her by laughing VERY loudly while she was looking, or whether Rachel is just plain scared of all old man/woman... Happens to greatgrand uncle and aunts too... *shrug*

This will be the first trip to Ipoh that I dind't really have fun eating, cuz most of the time, I'm carrying Rachel, and was eating with 1 hand... Can't really enjoy the eating and had to be walking around a lot too!

Rachel had diarrhea (1 time only) when we reach home, I wonder if it's the water? But I did mix water we brought from home and the water we boiled there, in fact we even brought her own thermos boiler! Now that gets me a little worried for the Penang trip due end of the year for a friend's wedding... Any advice??

This is probably the first time I post so many of Rachel's crying photos!
From TOP to BOTTOM, LEFT to RIGHT:
Start of journey : being good in the baby car seat, smiling and playing, sleeping soundly
In Ipoh : GGM laughing loudly (which probably scares little Rachel), in the restaurant
Fussing Starts: Crying, crying, crying

Rachel has been showing more and more signs/symptoms of teething, including:
- drooling (ALWAYS)
- having the urge to chew and bite
- loose stool (about 2 weeks now)
- more fusses at night and wakes up in the middle of the night (this week)

*YAWN* yeah, she woke up yesterday at 2am! Making noise and don't want to go back to sleep for a while, even though she was yawning, probably as big a yawn as mine... So, I was checking her gum, still did not really see any white bumbs, hubby mentioned he THINKS he see it, but we are both not very sure...

Talking about dental, I heard on the radio (MyFM) about how much toothpaste to use when brushing your teeth? They mentioned that some research shows that if you brush without using toothpaste, it will cause deterioration of the dental protective layer by 20 (err, I don't understand what is the unit that they used, so lets call it 20#)... If you were to use toothpaste, it causes deterioration of 25-60#!!! Surprising eh? So the suggested amount of toothpaste is about 1/3 or 1/2 of the length of your toothbrush.

It made me think, if all this brushing friction causes the 'deterioration'/'corrosion', meaning that the less we brush, the better right? hahaha... Pretty contradicting isn't it? Anyhow, remember not to use too much toothpaste from now on wor... Good thing also, save more money also... :D

I don't know how many of you uses HongLeong (HLB), but I have ALL (I repeat, ALL) my accounts there, except for one in Maybank which was required for company's salary... ALL my other savings and current account are attached to HLB.

Read this.

I've been trying and failing to do my internet banking transactions since last week! I have issued some cheques which need to be cleared to ensure I don't get charged unnessary interest, and now, I haven't manage to transfer the money over to my current account, so if I get charged interest, who's going to bare leh?

Also, I feel disappointed that HLB did not put in notices earlier on the downtime, and the slow troubleshooting time. As a database administrator/developer, I understand that certain things are just unavoidable, but they are down for 5 days now, and I think is a very serious matter. They do owe all of us a huge apology, and better make sure I don't get charged interest or penalty (cuz my current account doesn't have enough money for the cheques that I've issued, as I haven't manage to transfer money over yet), else I going to call up HLB and SCOLD them liao!

I know, it's also my carelessness, I shouldn't have all money in 1 bank... Hehehe...

Rachel picked up a new crying sound/'vocab' yesterday...

As always, when hubby and I arrive home from work, she'll smile and play for a while, and then if we would to put her down to have dinner, she'll cry (FAKE cry most of the time), probably because suddenly feels lonely (could that be possible?)... The whole of yesterday evening, whenever she fake her cry, she'll make a AH-NYEA-NYEAA-NYEEEAAA sound, then stop, then repeat again... SO CUTE! hahaha... I can't stop laughing...

Anyway, it's a good thing, as this shows her vocab starting to pick up, she's already started to make different kind of sounds lately, instead of just the common few, AH-GOO, AAHHH, etc...

I wonder when she'll call MOMMY... HeHeHeHeHe...

Ever since Rachel returned home, we've been using a night light at night, so I don't have to turn on the lights to check on her in the middle of the night. Something happened last Saturday, which made me pretty disturbed with night lights now... :(

Rachel went to sleep after her feeding (err, I'm talking as if she can walk herself *slap forehead*), I mean to say, Rachel was put to bed after her feeding (that sounds better), while hubby and I stayed in the living watching TV. All of a sudden, we heard a loud sound of something bursting/breaking!!!

The whole room smelled of burnt plastic, and I found the plastic cover of the night light ON RACHEL!!!!!!! Ish!! I don't know if she was hit by it, but I doubt it, as she was still sleeping soundly... The whole thing fell into pieces, showing all the burnt wirings, also, the connecting plastic was 'burnt' and out of shape! That was just like less than an hour since we on it that night!

Though we are still using 1 now, temporary of course, we have completely lost trust in night lights, and are looking for better solutions. So those of you that are using night lights, please be careful...

I am SO happy... It's Saturday again, and I'm an hour away from finishing work...
(Yeah, I'm blogging with company's time, but it's SATURDAY, work mood is near zero, or probably subzero... HeHehe)

This photo was taken on 9th October (Monday), and little Rachel was SO happy to see me, she can't stop smiling... I'm HAPPY!! Of late, she's showing a lot of preference towards me, and yeah, I did tell myself, "SEE! Nothing to worry about leh?" haha...

We'll be bringing Rachel to Sunway Pyramid later, because Daddy & Mommy need to buy somethings, so little Rachel get to go shopping! It's also her little uncle's (my youngest brother) birthday today, we having steamboat AGAIN! (I'm about sick of steamboat)... I'm looking forward to next weekend, because Rachel'll be having her first outstation trip, we are going to Ipoh for her great-grandma's birthday celebration... Lets wait and see how things go, but I foresee lotsa trunk space taken up by Rachel, hehehe....

It's WEEKEND!! WooHoo.... Happy Happy JOY JOY... *dance dance dance*

Rachel has now started to hold her milk bottle steadily for more than a week now.

Last month, she was doing it very clumsy, wasn't very stable and needed constant help from us.

Now, she will lung forward towards the milk bottle (IMPATIENTLY - nearly always kicking and struggling trying to get up and reach for it), and with a little help, stuff it into her opened 'O' shaped mouth that she will make since she see the milk bottle in front of her, and then, she'll hold the bottle with both her hands, until all the milk finishes.

It's fun seeing her do it. All 3 of her grandparents (2 grandmas and 1 grandpa) were so proud of Rachel's achievement, they can't stop coo-ing about it... However, I think her finger grips are not very well controlled yet, and the big Avent bottle doesn't really help, but I'm sure very soon she'll hold the bottle better... ;)

Monday, October 09, 2006

I had a pampering session in the saloon on Saturday, a wash and a massage while hubby was at home taking care of little Rachel, although he wasn't really feeling well, was down with sinus due to the haze problem. However, from then on, the weekend was nothing but HECTIC!

We had a wedding dinner to attend to that night, good friend of hubs back in secondary school. So we were supposed to leave Tina and Rachel in my mum's place so they wouldn't be alone, but end up, EVERYONE had plans, and they still had to be alone at home.... *shrug*
I called back at 10pm (mother being mother, can never not call back eh?), and Rachel still wasn't asleep! Anyway, this was the first night she had to sleep without me helping her with her night routine, and I guess it wasn't really good for her, cuz on Sunday, she woke up CRYING and FUSSING and KICKING and VERY VERY cranky! (which continued the whole day)... I better not be doing this too often... :(

Sunday spells another hectic day.

Hubby's colleague/friend was supposed to come for lunch, and because he was bringing a bottle of Bordeaux, normal pizza wouldn't do justice eh? We did our shopping for today's lunch on friday night after work, when Rachel is asleep, hubby and I snuck out at about 11pm to Tesco (good thing Tesco's ope till 1am on Fridays & Saturdays night). We were prepared to have mashed potato, baked mushroom & broccoli, with pan fried BBQ lamb. Friend was planning to come see Rachel, and take photos, so Rachel was all pretty in her new blouse (mind you, it's supposed to be for babies of age 18-24 months) from grandma, and a pink jeans from AhYeng CheChe (bro-in-law's girlfriend in Australia). We then found out that Friend was not in the condition to come, and I was told that he still feels like shit today! So, err... The lunch was then shared out between hubs, myself and Tina, with a few more in the fridge! And Friend, if you are reading this, the next time, you'll come with food as well... HaHaHa... :D

So so, lunch verdict, a little too salty, but it was good. It would have been great with Bordeaux, really... HeHeHe... We were having lunch while watching bad luck Schuey's engine failure, and I'm super sad! I wanted him to win! I was all ready, to jump in joy, seeing Scheuy lead from the start after taking over Massa's pole position, but what luck! WHAT LUCK!!! I'm mean, I'm vicious and I hope Alonso will have an engine failure or any other problems and could not complete his race in Brazil and Schuey will win the championship, be the first to get 8 championship wins and retire in the spotlight. He still already is retiring as a star, but, it could have been better... :(

Anyway, the hectic Sunday has not even really started!

I had 3 crabs crawling around in my house for the whole afternoon before we cut them up for the night's steamboat dinner. Inlaws came over, to celebrate mom-in-law's birthday which was supposed to be last Thursday.

We had a whole full table of food. Imagine we only finished half of the things hubby and I prepared! And to top up, inlaws bought A WHOLE lot more, not knowing the amount of stuff we already had. The whole afternoon (except for the F1 race) was all about food preparation! FOOD FOOD FOOD! Rachel was fussing during dinner time, and therefore I don't have any photos to show. Rachel actually fussed the whole day, hubby was getting tired of caring for her while Tina and I prepared for the dinner, and couldn't stop complaining about Rachel being a spoilt brat!! Anyway, dinner was tiring, with Rachel fussing and cry, and InLaws getting restless hearing their beloved grandkid cry, but there was just TOO MUCH food. Actually, both hubby and I would rather have more food than to have not enough and everyone not satisfied. SIGH, super greedy... I know... Which explains the tummy discomfort today... :(

Rachel has turned yesterday!!! However, she still doesn't know how to remove her hand from under her... So she turned, then got stucked! Can't turn more, and can't turn back! I didn't manage to see her in the turning process, so that's a little sad. This is the 2nd time we found her in the turned position, the first was on 4th of October 2006.

When I tried to make her turn again, she wouldn't! She'll just lie there, and look at me and my camera... So far, she has only turned once a day, still a little lazy I guess... hehehe.... Lets see if she'll turn more during the weekend morning exercise... :)

By the way, I'm ok now, from the food poisoning yesterday, and Rachel is officially OK from the diarrhea she had a few days back too.... Hubby came home to 2 sleeping piggies yesterday, as he reached about 11pm. Poor guy, didn't have keys, called me 2 times and I still didn't hear. After medicine mar, so sleepy and drowsy... hehehe... Come back from so many hours of flight and cab, but still have to wait outside the apartment door so long... hehehe...

Rachel is salivating a lot lately. I don't know if it's a sign of teething or not.

Look at the photo, you can see it dripping out her mouth, while she was happily looking into grandpa's koi pond.

Like I said, we were made to do the 'stopping saliva' ritual, but as expected, she's still salivating, and soiling probably about 6 to 7 hankys a day! I can't wait to the day she stop salivating!!!

I think she's also feeling better now from the diarrhea she was having. No more diarrhea today *fingers crossed*, and last was yesterday afternoon. So, from the diarrhea episode, my mum is insisting that Rachel is teething, saying that babies have diarrhea when they teeth! Well, I heard about loose stool, but but, diarrhea? Is it true anyone????

My whole family is down with food poisoning today! Started off with me, vomiting and then diarrhea, and then my brothers, and now my mom's maids! It's all due to the maid's cooking! :(

I'm still at work, but you'll see me running to the toilet on and off, I should just move my PC there! *rolls eye*

Hubby is coming back tonight, he's officially back in Malaysia now, waiting for his flight from Miri, to Kuching then KL. Arriving at 9:40pm, but no, I won't be going to pick him up. Too much of a hassle, so he'll be catching a cab, I wonder if he have enough money on him to pay the cab off? hahaha...

Little Rachel had diarrhea again yesterday. 3 times in the afternoon-evening, and again during mid-nite/morning (I'm not sure how many times though, cuz I was sleeping, and waking up to a smelly butt). She is still her usual self, not more fussy, so that kind of takes some worries away, cuz she's still smiling and playing. But, how can a mother not be worried when she know something is not right? I don't know what causes the diarrhea, I don't know how to make her better...

I talked to my aunt (which is Rachel's paed), but she didn't say anything, just gave me 2 capsule to be diluted in water for Rachel, once a day... And hubby is away in Brunei... :(

It's the first time since Rachel's birth, that Hubby have to go outstation to work. He went to Brunei yesterday night, and will only be back on Thursday night. So little Rachel and I are now staying in my mum's place. A little inconvenient, as we have to move many things over...

Rachel was very fussy yesterday evening, everytime I walk into the living room carrying her, she'll cry and kick, but when I walk towards the door, open it and stood there, she'll stare outside and keep quiet. I don't know if she wants to go for a walk, but I'm thinking she wants to go home. SIGH!!! Ended up, her bedtime routine started an hour earlier than usual, and she slept from 8:30pm... Was prepared for her to wake up earlier today morning, but amazingly she slept until 7am. She did wake up in the middle of the night yesterday, but she didn't make noise, so I just let her be and she went back to sleep herself... I'm proud of my little girl.... hehehe

The photo above was taken last week, when Daddy was carrying her, and she was lunging in my direction.... And the one below taken on the same day, she was fussing a little, and end up pulling Daddy's lips... hehehe.... Daddy was asking for help to release her grasp, but I had to snap a photo first... hehehe.....

We brought Rachel for weighing the other day, and this is for the record of Rachel when she's 4 months old.
WEIGHT : 6.9kg
LENGTH : 62.5cm

She's growing very slowly length wise... only 2.5cm this month.... hmmm..... We have also increased Rachel's feeding to 6ozs! :D

We took Rachel to Sakae Sushi in Subang Parade on Saturday.

She was looking at the sushi bar for a while, probably attracted by the movement and the colorful plates, then to the flatscreen at the side for our ordering, cuz they had the screen saver on...

She then had her feeding, before she started messing with the menu, first staring at the pages and trying to turn them, then trying to put it into her mouth, then she started fussing because I didn't allow her to.... *smack forehead* She does look VERY cute when she was trying to 'flip the pages' though... I just HAD to get hubby to snap some photos..... :)

After that, it was all downhill... She fussed, she cried, she kicked! I had to eat standing up! EVERYTIME I sit down, she'll cry! The baby sling does help, cuz I could have free hands to eat... hahaha....

On Sunday, grandpa bought Rachel a lantern! Rachel's first lantern. HeHeHe.... It's for the midautumn festival this friday. NO no... Don't worry, it's not those with candles that we burnt when we were kids, but this is a super fantastic lantern! It's battery operated, with bulb to light it up, and it has MUSIC, and it TURNS!!!!! I'll post a video when I have one... She was VERY attracted to it because of the turning and the music, but all she wanted to do with it was put into her mouth! She got VERY excited at first, but then VERY VERY annoyed later, when she couldn't eat it... Inset of the photo below, shows the short good time she had with the lantern... Very shortly after the photo was taken, she cried and fussed until she went to sleep about 30 minutes later! *phew*
