Rachel is 8 months old today!!
So fast... Another 4 months and it's going to be 1 years old! That will be a great milestone eh? hahaha.... (this mother SO ANXIOUS)
WEIGHT : 8.8kg
HEIGHT : 72cm
Diet:
- No change.
- Going to star her on more varieties this month.
- No change.
- Signs of more to come soon.
New Developments:
- Brushes her hands against each other when told to "wash hands"
- Can move front, back and turn slightly in her walker.
- Crawls a little better, and could reach her destination now.
- Can identify people accurately, she'll turn and look at the person we mention. (eg: "where is Daddy?" -> she'll turn and look around until she found Tecky, then stare at him for a longer time.)
- Know how to 'sayang' (put her hand on people's cheek) when told to (but does this to the person in front of her only)
- Can wave bye-bye.
- Like to throw things on the floor. But everytime this happens, she'll also be the one picking it up (of course push forward and we carry her over or put her on the floor near it lar) -> This might be because I always train her to pick up things that she drop.
- When told to "GIVE", she'll drop the thing she's holding, sometimes onto the hand that we stretch out for her (most of the time only : sometimes she is too engrossed in it, she didn't bother), then right after that she'll ask for it back again...
- Always wants the things (whatever it is) that we are holding.
- DEMANDING! Now means now, want means want, else she'll go mmm, mmmm, or eeeeeee..... *roll eyes*
- Needs companion when she goes to bed at night now, I don't know if it's separation anxiety or teething... Whichever, it's not good...
- Couldn't see me go away (toilet also I have to hide and Tecky have to distract her)... Just like when I reach home from work, she'll make noise if I don't carry her...
- Laughs more too

Doesn't she look like a BIG GIRL in the photo?Photo taken in Tapah rest area on our way back from Penang on 25th December 2006.
YEAH! You've got that right! She's 7 months old today!!!
I've put her weight and height in the lousy scrap I put together today morning... Nemmind lar, 'cincai' (Hokkien: simply) lar...
Diet:
- 7oz milk, every 4 hours (except night time)
- 1 porridge in the morning (or afternoon depending). Consisting of sweet potato, carrot, pumpkin, tomato (in rotation or as available).
- 1 fruit session (as available) in the evening. Variation of banana, papaya, grapes, apple, mango.
- 2 (half out) front teeth on the bottom jaw.
New Developments:
- can roll left and right, all the way.
- can clasp her hands together and move it up and down when we ask her to do "GONG XI GONG XI" (yeah, preparing for angpow during Chinese New Year). But she does this sometimes without we saying it, so more training needed.
- she moves in front towards the toy she want, by rolling back and forth , left and right, inching to the front a little everytime.
- when supported under her arms, she can 'walk' step by step in front. (but yet to sit up by herself!)
- has very strong arms, can lift cameras and iPaq with 1 hand.
- started to discover her individual fingers, likes to flick the labels of toys/hanky with her index finger.
- turns towards the person that calls her name.
- loves to laugh when we laugh at her. Sometimes it'll be SO dramatic that you can't help but laugh even more (see video for one of the not so dramatic laughing session).
- Apart from having my bad temper, she gets so 'mang chang' (restless) when she wants to sleep, that she rubs her eyes (left eye then right eye then both eyes!!!) until it's SO red, see also sakit hati (heartache).
- Screams and shout and rub her feet whenever she don't get things she wants or gets her way (to be carried or to stand).
- Tremendous mood swing! From happy (laughing) to crying in spilt second...

Weight: 7.3kg
Height: 64.5cm
Rachel's Update:
- She drinks 6.5oz of milk every 4 hours. Actually I think she can last longer than that, but that will add up to be too little for her weight, so I decided to feed every 4 hours.
- She can now sleeps until 7 or 8 when hubby and I are not working, but wakes up around 6:30am when we do.
- She holds her own milk bottle all the time.
- She could sit with support, but will still always fall in front when she try to reach for things to play with.
- She can lift herself up about 45degrees, wonder when she'll be able to sit up (TOO ambitious huh?)
- She's starting to pay attention to her toes, trying to reach it a bit, but probably because of her big tummy, couldn't reach without any help from us.
- She can now turn and prop herself up, but only to her left hand side.
- She rubs her eyes or the front of her head when she's sleepy, and will fake a cry and make noises that sounds like 'Ah-Nyen-Nyen-Nyen' when seeking attention or wants to be carried.
- She tends to want to stay awake (giving a fight when we try to let her sleep) on weekends or holidays, when she see daddy and mommy around.
- She starts to be picky of who carries her, sometimes will fuss when daddy carry, but quiet down as soon as mommy takes over, or vice versa.
- She is STILL drooling non stop.
- She'll shriek and giggle when we tickle her or play with her.
- She likes to play with her saliva, spitting it out and 'making bubbles' out of it.
- When we say 'kok kok' (knock knock) to her and put something in front of her head, she will know how to close her eyes and bang her head forward to knock... My mom thought her this! :D

She hasn't visited the paed lately, so I'll post her weight and height next week... hehe...
Rachel's Update:
- She likes to be carried vertically, though might still lose balance once in a while.
- She drinks 5.5oz (UPDATED: 165ml, as requested by TIMO) of milk every 3.5 to 4 hours.
- She sleeps from about 9:30pm to 6am everyday, without waking up.
- She'll fall asleep herself at night. Where I'll wipe her, feed her and put her on her bed and leave the room...
- She'll reach out with both hands in the direction of the milk bottle (I will try to shoot a video and post it online) when she sees the bottle, then will to hold it, open her mouth big and attempt to put the teat into her mouth, all by herself.
- She LOVE to sucks her fingers. Sleeping time, it'll mostly be her right hand, index and middle fingers. When playing time, her left hand thumb.
- She cry when she lost sight of the toy she's playing, or when she wants to be carried. She usually stops her fake crying as soon as she sees the camera.
- She holds her rattlers and other toys, and will put it into her mouth!
- She salivate A LOT! Always soiling her hanky, bibs, or the collar of her blause within minutes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rachel's greatgrandma (father in law's mom) insisted on a prayer for little Rachel's 4th Month anniversary. She also insisted in a 'stop salivating ritual' because Rachel salivate a lot, where she requested for a new bib from my mum, and some MARIE biscuits (13 to be exact). The biscuits were threaded together into necklace like, and worn onto Rachel's neck on top of the bib. Greatgrandma then said something about stopping Rachel's saliva, keep it dry and not to salivate again while she used the bib to dry Rachel's salivated chin! We were then made to hang the bib for 10-20 days in our room, and ate up all the 13 biscuits. HeHeHe...Verdict: Rachel is STILL salivating! Well, my personal believe is that, there's really no harm doing this, and I don't lose anything but gained in all as it made greatgrandma really happy. So that was why I went along with it, though I did not believe it will stop Rachel from salivating, but I found this 'ritual' really funny, weird and 'cute' in some ways... Anyone else heard of it before? Is anyone a 'believer' that it works? It's interesting to share this kinda opinions sometimes... :D
We did a check on little Rachel's weight, after a 2 weeks 'diet', and dissapointingly, she put on a whooping 300gms through the 2 weeks....
WEIGHT : 6.6 kg
LENGTH : 61 cm
She started to:
- Grab/lung for things that comes in front of her (and putting them into her mought)
- Laugh in reaction of playing peekaboo: No, not coincidentally, but everytime we do it to her.
- Recognise familiar/stanger's faces: Yesterday night, when a family friend wanted to carry little Rachel from me, (she just woke up, looking dazed and comfortably laying on my chest), Rachel actually cling onto my t-shirt collar, stare at the family friend, and started crying! As soon as the friend let go of her hands, she stopped. There were initial signs, but we didn't think it was possible, until this event.
